Introduction

LPNS: Life of a Practical Nursing Student.
Hello everyone. My name is Sarah and I'm a Practical Nursing student in my first semester of nursing school. I'm 23, born and raised in Florida, have one dog and amazing parents (my mom is also a former LPN!). I started out in the medical field by volunteering at a hospital up on the med surg floor when I was 14. I still volunteer in the ER/ED at the same hospital when I have the time. I am also a EMT-Basic. I have wanted to be a nurse ever since I was 3 and started watching " Rescue 911". What also inspired me to become a nurse seeing my mom help friends and even complete strangers when they were hurt or sick. My ultimate goal is to become a midwife and start my own home birth/birth center practice on or near one of the American Indian reservations in North Carolina, Oklahoma, or South Dakota. My family on my mom's side has American Indian hertitage (Eastern Cherokee and possibly Sioux). A few years ago I went to the Cheyenne River Sioux reservation in South Dakota, which is in one of the top five poorest counties in the United States. I saw first hand how badly some Indian reservations need good healthcare providers.
Anyway, I LOVE nursing school. We are entering our 4th week of clinicals. Currently, we are at a local nursing home, but will start going to the hospitals later this month. As the life of a practical nursing student is VERY busy, I may not update this regularly, but I'll try. I have to write some papers right now, so I've got to go. Bye till next time!
